City of Fairbury City Council met May 28.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.
2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, and Lynn Dameron. Steve Endres, Gerald Hoffman and Bill Schmidgall were absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
4. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:
• Lieutenant Jeffrey Hamilton with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department spoke to the council regarding the possible acquisition of the City of Fairbury’s K9 Officer and equipment
5. New Business – Discussion/Action Items
A. Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to accept the resignation of Chief of Police Mark Travis. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron
B. Motion by Weber, second by Norris to accept the resignation of Officer Cody Followell. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron
C. Consideration to appoint a Chief of Police – ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AFTER
EXECUTIVE SESSION
D. Consideration of the future of the city K9 unit – ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AFTER
EXECUTIVE SESSION
6. Public Comment:
NONE
7. Motion by Dameron at 6:16 p.m. to enter Executive Session, second by Kinate.
A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).
B. Sale or Purchase of Property – Section 2(c)(7) – The setting of a price for sale or lease of property owned by the public body.
Motion by Weber at 6:49 p.m. to enter Open Session, second by Kinate.
Action from Executive Session –
5 C. Motion by Dameron, second by Weber to appoint Lieutenant Robert McCormick as the Chief of Police effective Friday, May 31, 2019. Motion carried 5-0 YESNorris Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron
5 D. Motion by Dameron, second by Hoselton to authorize the Mayor to negotiate a sale price of the Fairbury K9 unit including squad car and the K9 Officer to Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron
8. Adjournment – Motion by Weber, second by Dameron to adjourn @ 6:53 p.m.
