Illinois Art Station closer to reality with Normal City Council's zoning approval

The Illinois Art Station’s desire for a new home took a step forward as the Normal City Council approved rezoning an area near Constitution Trail during a virtual meeting.

The Art Station, which is 2 years old, is planning a 5,000-square-foot building for an educational facility and a garage for storage WGLT reported. The station creates hands-on activities for youth and families. The station is particularly focused on underserved populations IAS Foundation President Laura Berk said reported.

The rezoning along with the approval of a four-year contract with the city’s police department made for a busy evening. The department will receive annual raises of 2.5% split into two 1.25% raises very year of the contract. For the police contract, the negotiations were smoothly with only two meetings required.

“That speaks to a level of respect between the force and the town administration,” council member Karyn Smith said. “The raises that are included in this collective bargaining agreement are more than earned.”
