Normal FD responds to 102 fires in 2018

Normal Fire District responded to 691 calls in 2018 - 4.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Normal included 102 fires - 46 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 39 other fires. The fire department also responded to 13 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,028,527 in fire loss - or about $10,084 per fire.

The department also received 576 false calls, including 56 malicious calls and 520 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries.

The Normal Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 64 active employees and 47 retired or inactive employees, was $288,634 positive as of March 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,532 for every fire in 2017.
