Bloomington FD responds to 196 fires in 2018

Bloomington Fire District responded to 915 calls in 2018 - 8.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Bloomington included 196 fires - 109 structure fires, 35 vehicle fires and 52 other fires. The fire department also responded to 18 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,807,655 in fire loss - or about $9,223 per fire.

The department also received 701 false calls, including 46 malicious calls and 655 other false calls.

The calls resulted in nine civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, 16 fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and five were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Bloomington Fire District had an annual budget of $605,948 in 2018.

The Bloomington Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 108 active employees and 103 retired or inactive employees, was $1,255,293 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $7,341 for every fire in 2017.
