City of Pontiac Public Library Board of Trustees met Sept. 14.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
President Connie Snyder called the meeting to order at 5:30PM.
The roll call was answered by Connie Snyder, Kathy McLean, Kathy Robinson, Eric Hoover, Bruce Koerner, and Lisa Martin.
Consent Agenda:
Trustees reviewed the minutes and paid bills from August. Bruce Koerner moved to accept the minutes and bills as presented. Kathy McLean seconded. All present voted in favor. Motion carried.
Correspondence:
Intergovernmental agreement with District 429 for the 20-21 school year has been received.
Director’s Report:
The library has purchased an electrostatic sprayer that will allow us to sanitize the Library and collection without damaging any items.
RAILS has asked consortium libraries to return to a 7-day quarantine period for all library materials. This change was effective 8/28/20.
The state has released two new grants for libraries facing financial difficulties due to COVID. One is a $500 grant for expenses and supplies incurred with reopening during the pandemic. The second is a $4,900 grant for books. Both grants are due at the end of the month and should be announced by mid-October.
The library is proceeding with the intergovernmental agreement with Pontiac District 429. All accounts will be updated and activated by the end of the month.
Heartland Community College is finished working on repairs in the entryway. They are continuing with updates and remodeling for MCCA.
The library hosted an outdoor movie on Friday, September 4th. The movie “Hook” was shown and Vermillion Players were gracious enough to rent us their sound equipment.
The library will participate in the 3rd Saturday market hosted by Pops Pop Up on Saturday September 19th. The participating vendors continue to be very generous and offer the fees from the event as a donation to the library.
Committee Updates:
Management Committee – Nothing to report.
Building and Grounds – Bruce checked with Heartland Community College this morning on the remodel for MCAA. Some painting has been competed, but floorplan work has not been started. Bruce will continue to monitor.
Finance Committee – Tax distribution from the first installment has been received.

New Business:
21-22 Per Capita Grant/Serving Our Public 4.0 – The grant will require the board to review the whole book this year. We will go through each chapter’s checklist over the next few meetings.
21-22 Live & Learn Grant/East Parking Lot – The grant is expected to be available. The mini grant is a matching grant that would provide up to $35,000 that would be matched by the library for a total of $70,000. Trustees discussed the possibility of applying for the grant to replace the east parking lot. Bruce and Kristin will continue to look into the details of the grant and project.
