Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team nears lead at Wartburg Spring Invite

The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team demonstrated strong performance during the first day of the Wartburg Spring Invite at Prairie Links Golf and Event Center in Waverly, Iowa. The tournament saw senior Macy Ludwig achieving a personal milestone by surpassing her own single-round scoring record.

Ludwig completed the course with a score of six-under 66, eclipsing her previous best by one stroke. Her performance included six birdies and an eagle on the challenging par-four, 316-yard 18th hole. She is now one stroke ahead in a field of 98 competitors.

Joining Ludwig in contributing to Illinois Wesleyan’s successful day were seniors Jacque O'Neill and Jadyn Spinks. Both scored one-over 73. Sophomore Nora Cerroni closed with a score of 74, going two-over par after birdieing two of her last three holes.

As a team, Illinois Wesleyan finished two-under par with a score of 286, tying for second place alongside Grinnell. St. Kate's currently leads with a score of 285. Additional competitors include St. Kate's 'B', Dubuque, and Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team, which is positioned 10th with a score of 321.

The tournament's final round begins on April 5, with live scoring available.
