City of Lexington City Council Met October‌ ‌12

Meeting 10

City of Lexington City Council met Oct. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the Lexington City Council was called to order at 7:00 P. M. by Mayor Spencer Johansen in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Mayor Johansen led the council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was taken to find the following physically present: Mayor Johansen, Alderman Colclasure, Alderman Franklin, Alderman Stover, Alderman Richard and Alderwoman Wilson. Alderman Schreiber was attending remotely. Members of the staff and public present were Don Cavallini, David Belvery, Louise Rosenburg, Joshua Rosenburg Meiszner, Sherry Z. Hol, Travis Klaas, Calena Cjrit, Jaida Wilk and Officer Bryan Schultz.

It was moved by Alderman Colclasure and seconded by Alderman Franklin to approve the minutes of the September 28, 2020 regular meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Alderman Stover and seconded by Alderwoman Wilson to approve the Treasurer’s Report and pay bills in the amount of $25,314.52. Motion carried unanimously.

Discussion/Vote Hiring New Police Officer

Alderman Richard led the discussion stating that they had had 15-20 applications for the position of patrol Officer of which they had interviewed four candidates. They felt that Louise Rosenburg was the best candidate for the job and recommended that the city council hire her for the position of Patrol Officer.

Motion was made by Alderman Richard and seconded by Alderman Colclasure to approve the hiring of Louise Rosenburg for the position of Patrol Officer. Motion carried unanimously.

Chief Belvary proceeded to swear Louise Rosenburg in as Patrol Officer for the City of Lexington. It was also noted that Officer Rosenburg is the city’s first female officer.

Committee Reports:

Mayor’s Reports: Mayor Johansen reported on the following items:

Casey’s is going well. We are done with our road part. David Leake went out and filled in some of the ditch with black dirt. We are going to keep the road closed until Casey’s is open. We are under budget with the road. There will be a guard rail put up at the end of the road.

He has met with another potential business to go in on Main Street and will be making an announcement soon.

A question was asked about the Koch building. There has been an insurance adjuster come to look at the building but we have not heard back from him yet.

He did hear back from Charles Farner on the Orange Street property and he is still working on some final things and should have some answers soon.

Police: None

Building & Insurance Alderman Franklin reported that he had sent a follow up

email to Ameren regarding the Myers Trail but had heard nothing back yet.

Mayor Johansen commented that they had been there last week while Alderman Franklin was gone. Between Bill Elias and Mike Beard he believes they have gotten everything figured out.

Alderman Franklin would still like a response from them. Finance & TIF None Water/Sewer/Sanitation None

Street/Alley None

Clerk Pease reminded those running in the April 6, 2021 election that they should have received an email stating the number of signatures required for their petitions. Minimum number is 25 for each candidate.

Mayor Johansen told about a problem with the copier not alway sending out the meeting agendas.

A question was asked about what the city was doing about Halloween. Mayor Johansen replied that trick or treat hours are 5-7 p.m. The city will be giving out sandwiches from Kelly’s at the tent at 4:00. Guidelines must be practiced for trick or treating.

There being no further business a motion was made by Alderman Franklin to adjourn at 7:13 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
