City of Le Roy City Council met May 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dean at 7:00 PM at Le Roy City Hall, 207 S East Street, Le Roy. Council members present were Patti Welander, Kyle Merkle, Dawn Hanafin, Matt Steffen, Sarah Welte, Ron Legner, Kelly Lay, and Justin Morfey.

Staff members present were Dan Lush, Dave Jenkins and Anita Corso.

Included on the consent agenda were Regular Meeting Minutes from April 18, 2022, Public Hearing minutes from April 18, 2022, invoices from May 2, 2022 in the amount of $110,696.55, and payroll for the period of April 22, 2022, in the amount of $50,803.60.

The items in the consent agenda were voted on separately.

Motion was made by Sarah and seconded by Kyle for approval of the Council Meeting Minutes and the Public Hearing Meeting minutes. Roll call: Patti Welander-yes, Kyle Merkle-yes, Dawn Hanafin-yes, Matt Steffen-yes, Sarah Welte-yes, Ron Legner-abstain, Kelly Lay-abstain, and Justin Morfey-yes. Motion carried 6 yeas, 0 nays, 2 abstain.

Motion was made by Matt and seconded by Justin for approval of the invoices and payroll. Roll call: Patti Welander-yes, Kyle Merkle-yes, Dawn Hanafin-yes, Matt Steffen-yes, Sarah Welte yes, Ron Legner-abstain, Kelly Lay-yes, and Justin Morfey-yes. Motion carried 7 yeas, 0 nays, 1 abstain.

Dave reported the new squad would be purchased from Morrow Brothers since they have a new 2022 in stock instead of waiting for the car ordered that has yet to be built.

Anita reported Statements of Economic Interest were due to county clerk today.

Motion was made by Dawn and seconded by Sarah for the approval of the Mayoral Appointments for FY 2022-2023. Roll call: Patti Welander-yes, Kyle Merkle-yes, Dawn Hanafin yes, Matt Steffen-yes, Sarah Welte-yes, Ron Legner-yes, Kelly Lay-yes, and Justin Morfey-yes. Motion carried 8 yeas, 0 nays.

In Old and New Business Dave passed around a photo and discussed the necessity of replacing the brick sidewalk on the East St. side of the LYB building. Council consensus was an agreement that the replacement is necessary.

Mayor Dean asked what the council would like to see accomplished in the next 3months or next 6 months. Many ideas were presented including but not limited to: new business, more events like the car show & motorcycle rally, creation of a “Why your event should be in Le Roy” packet / flyer, pop-up stores – possibly renovating the old fire station as a pop-up location, update the signs on the interstate and the one on Chestnut that points the way to Howard Virgin Park, creation of a community newsletter, and more. Discussion also included the difficulty in finding volunteers for such events / projects.

Mayor Dean also stated hydrant flushing is due to start this week and requested notice be put on the City website as flushing may create temporary discoloration of the water inside residences.

The City Job Fair is scheduled for Friday 5/6/22. Students will have lunch at City Hall then be taken to the different departments courtesy of the Living Well United red van & driver.

LHS concert band will kick of the 100th Anniversary of the Bandstand celebration with a 6pm concert in the park on 5/13/22.

It was also agreed a realtor specializing in empty lots should be found to help sell the 17.5 acres and the lots by the old nursing home.

Motion was made by Dawn and seconded by Sarah to adjourn the regular council meeting. Roll call: Patti Welander-yes, Kyle Merkle-yes, Dawn Hanafin-yes, Matt Steffen-yes, Sarah Welte yes, Ron Legner-yes, Kelly Lay-yes, and Justin Morfey-yes. Motion carried 8 yeas, 0 nays.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:52 PM.
