City of Fairbury City Council met March 16

City of Fairbury City Council met March 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Gerald Hoffman, James Tipton and Bill Schmidgall.

3. Pledge of Allegiance 

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the March 2, 2022, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 8-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments: 

⮚ Tom Vagasky, candidate for Livingston County Sheriff, spoke to the council about his plans for the Sheriff’s Department should he win the election 

6. Reports of Departments 

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported 

• The ladder truck is in service

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent was absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief was absent

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• Scheduled a Streets and Alley committee meeting for Tuesday, March 28th @ 6 p.m.

• Scheduled a Finance committee meeting for Wednesday, March 30th @ 6 p.m. 

→ City Clerk – Nancy Widlacki reported

• The city will be utilizing the city’s Facebook page and the city’s app to communicate news about swim team

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen 

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres asked why a building permit is required when making application for a chicken coop

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate received a complaint about the condition of the old hospital 

→ Alderman Weber – no report

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Tipton – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

A. Consideration of a quote to install sound panels in the council chambers at a cost of $2,400 – FAILED DUE TO LACK OF MOTION

13. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoffman to enter Executive Session at 7:12 p.m. 

Motion carried 8-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall 

PERSONNEL – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee). 

Motion by Kinate, second by Weber to enter Open Session at 7:21 p.m.

14. Adjournment – Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to adjourn at 7:24 p.m.
