City of Fairbury City Council met Feb. 15

City of Fairbury City Council met Feb. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Jerry Hoffman, James Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Endres, second by Tipton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the February 1, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported-

• Old City Hall renovations are almost complete

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent– absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief – none

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent –

• Met with Mayor Slagel, Councilman Norris, & Street Superintendent Steidinger at the Stafford Center to devise a plan on what to start fixing at the Stafford Center

• Introduced Bruce Pride as the new Sewer Assistant

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris –

➢ Pool Manager Alex Reis has been working on hiring more lifeguards and working on swim meets for the upcoming pool season. Connor Reis has been hired as Assistant Pool Manager for the upcoming season.

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton –

➢ Residents have been complaining about trains coming through town and covering all of the tracks in town.

→ Alderman Kinate – no report

→ Alderman Weber – absent

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Tipton – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

A. Motion by Hoselton, second by Endres to approve appointing Patricia Steidinger as Fire Clerk retroactive to January 1st 2023.

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Norris to approve increases to pay ordinance and contracts for Police Chief and City Superintendent

C. Consideration to approve sidewalk project along E Wanda from 5th Street to 7th Street.
