City of Fairbury City Council met July 5

City of Fairbury City Council met July 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Jerry Hoffman, James Tipton, Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the June 21, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0 YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

➢ Sharon Backstein came to request a dog park within the City.

➢ Dale Maley is in the process of replacing the awning on the Echoes Museum.

He is hopeful to have it completed by the beginning of August.

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief- none

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent reported–

• John Deer wants to sell the tractor on consignment

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief - none

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

• The IDOT representative said Fairbury is on their radar for road repair

• Reminder that the next City Council meeting will be the Appropriation Hearing at 6:15 p.m.

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – absent

→ Alderman Norris - none

→ Alderman Endres – none

→ Alderman Hoselton – none

→ Alderman Kinate – none

9. Old Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to approve purchase of 2023 Evolution Turfman 800 for $14,150 from Fehr Repair & Sales. Motion carried 7-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve new commercial subdivision. Motion carried 7-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Endres, second by Hoselton to approve $800 proposal from Krause for surveying work. Motion carried 7-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

C. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve 36” drainage pipe in the amount of $76,000 for the North drainage project to cost share with Prairie Central school district. Motion carried 7-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall
