State Representative Dennis Tipsword is sponsoring legislation aimed at safeguarding the personal information of law-abiding gun owners who are required to register certain firearms under the new gun ban/registration law proposed by Democrats.

The controversial law not only prohibits the ownership of several commonly used firearms but also mandates that gun owners register additional firearms and attachments with the state before January 1st. However, legal challenges to this law are currently underway.

"Democrats' most recent attack on our Second Amendment rights is deeply concerning. While the legal battles surrounding the new law continue, I believe it is crucial to protect the privacy of gun owners," stated State Representative Dennis Tipsword. "That is why I am sponsoring House Bill 4150, which will require the State Police to promptly destroy all personal information submitted by gun owners for registration purposes if the gun ban law is deemed unconstitutional. Specifically, the bill mandates the destruction of every endorsement affidavit and all related information held by the Illinois State Police and any law enforcement agency."

Under the current legislation, specific firearms purchased before January 10, 2023, must be registered with the Illinois State Police by January 1, 2024. A comprehensive list of the firearms subject to registration can be found on the Illinois State Police website.

It is important to note that these firearms have also been banned from purchase within Illinois since January 10, 2023.
