Desi Anderson, a candidate for the 91st House District, has expressed concerns about community safety, highlighting the recent rejection of requests by Cook County judges to detain two men accused of violent crimes as public safety threats.
Anderson’s comments come in the wake of the implementation of the cashless bail provision in the recently enacted Safe-T Act, which has drawn attention to the release of individuals charged with serious offenses.
“Community safety MUST be a top property for our state!! Who’s advocating for our victims?” Anderson said on Facebook.
Anderson linked to CWB Chicago a story noting Cook County judges who rejected requests from prosecutors to detain two men accused of violent crimes as public safety threats.
In one case, Victor Visinaiz, charged with vehicular hijacking and robbery, was accused of carjacking a woman, but Judge Barbara Dawkins released him on electronic monitoring despite prosecutors’ requests to keep him in jail before trial.
Another man, Tevin Tucker, charged with robbery for threatening a security guard with a metal baton, was released by Judge Maryam Ahmad, despite his extensive criminal history, with instructions to observe a nighttime curfew.
In September, Anderson, a business owner and mother from rural Carlock, announced her candidacy for the State Representative position in the 91st State House District, challenging the incumbent Democrat, Sharon Chung. She expressed a commitment to common-sense, freedom-focused solutions and addressing the concerns of working families and farmers, in her announcement to represent the district.
“For too long now, we have watched the state of Illinois move in the wrong direction,” Anderson said in her announcement.
“Unfortunately, Springfield has gone away from the common sense, freedom focused solutions that so many of our neighbors believe in, and want to see reflected in their government. Instead, out of touch lawmakers fail to consider the working families, farmers, and future generations when voting on legislation significant to our livelihood. I am ready to put in the time and energy to get Illinois back on track, create a prosperous future for our kids, and put Illinois families at the forefront.”
The 91st House District encompasses portions of McLean, Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties.
It is currently represented by State Rep. Sharon Chung (D-Bloomington).
