City of Fairbury City Council met Jan. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of

Council answered present: Steve Endres, Jon Kinate, Jerry Hoffman, Jim Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the January 3, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. None

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 5-0 YES- Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief - absent

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent - absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported –

• An officer was involved in an accident in a squad car

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

• Will be working with a property on the west side of town to annex into the City

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – none

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris - absent

→ Alderman Endres - none

→ Alderman Hoselton - absent

→ Alderman Kinate - none

→ Alderman Weber - absent

→ Alderman Hoffman - none

→ Alderman Tipton inquired about ordinances regarding asylum seeking immigrants.

A. Consideration to approve Update to SCADA software for Wastewater Dept -Removed

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to approve appointment of Bob Nussbaum as a Library Board Trustee. Motion carried 5-0 YES Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Tipton to approve reappointing Tom Bull to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Motion carried 5-0 YES Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

C. Motion by Endres, second by Kinate to approve a quote from G.A. Rich & Sons for $10,920 to replace filter valves at the Water Plant. Motion carried 5-0 YES Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

12. Public Comment

13. Executive Session

Motion by Schmidgall, second by Kinate to enter Executive Session at 6:44 p.m.

A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).

B. Litigation – Section 2(c)(11) Pending, probable or imminent litigation.

Motion by Kinate, second by Hoffman to enter Open Session at 7:08 p.m.

14. Adjournment – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoffman to adjourn at 7:12 p.m.
