Redbird History at the Redbird Invitational: Last season the Redbirds took second at their home event with a three-round team score of 866 from rounds of 284, 293, and 289. At that time ISU's score was a new program record for lowest tournament score. The round of 284 set a program record for lowest single-round score which was later tied and broken during other rounds in the year. Jinyoung Yun was the individual runner-up with a program-record score of 204 at this event; her two rounds of 67 set a new individual tournament round record which she later tied twice more.
About the Course: The Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University was designed in 1962 by golf course architect Robert Bruce Harris. It originally featured a regulation-length nine-hole course along its outer edges with a shorter executive-length nine-hole course in the middle. The course opened in May 1964 with University President Robert Bone hitting the first shot. During the 2000 season extensive renovations were undertaken under PGA Champions Tour Player and ISU Alumnus D.A.Weibring and his company Golf Resources Inc., including installing a new irrigation system and rebuilding all greens and bunkers among other improvements. The renovated course reopened in July 2001 to positive reviews throughout Illinois. In September 2007 it was renamed Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State to honor D.A.Weibring's contributions to ISU’s golf teams and university.
