Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team secured its second consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday, Sept. 16. The honor was awarded to freshman libero Alysa Lawton from Elmhurst, Illinois, marking the first accolade of her career.
Lawton played a pivotal role in the Titan defense during the week of Sept. 9-14, facing two ranked opponents and one team receiving votes. Over 13 sets, she accumulated 79 digs, averaging 6.08 per set, along with nine assists and two aces.
The freshman began her impressive week with a 27-dig performance against Coe College on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13. She then delivered her best performance that night against Edgewood College, achieving a career-high of 31 digs along with eight assists and an ace. Lawton concluded the week by contributing to a five-set victory over No. 21 Cornell College on Saturday, Sept. 14, recording another notable performance with 21 digs.
Looking ahead, Lawton and the Titans will open their CCIW season against Wheaton College at Shirk Center on Wednesday night, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
