Mathis Chavand named MVC Runner of the Week for second time

Senior Mathis Chavand has been named this week's Runner of the Week by the Missouri Valley Conference after his performance at the Gans Creek Classic. This marks his second time receiving the award, having previously been honored on September 16.

Chavand set a new school record in the 8,000 meters with a time of 23:20.9, surpassing a decade-old program record held by Ryan Rutherford by 30 seconds. He finished ninth in an event featuring over 40 schools.

Chavand now holds two school records, including the outdoor track 5,000-meter record he set last spring.

The Redbirds will next compete at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois on Friday, October 18. The event starts at 2 p.m.
