The Illinois State women's golf team is leading the 2024 MVC Championship after completing 36 holes. The team has a seven-stroke advantage going into the final round, which is scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. tomorrow.
Jinyoung Yun currently leads individually with a score of one-under 143, while Ali Schrock is tied for second place at two over par. Other team members, Michaela Kverkova, Avalon Woodward, and Vinisha Gunaseelan, are also performing well and rank in the top half of the field.
Illinois State's total score stands at 594 after rounds of 293 and 301. Competing schools include UIC with a score of 601, Belmont at 605, Drake with 607, Northern Iowa and Bradley both at 612 among others.
In tomorrow's final round, Illinois State will compete alongside UIC and Belmont starting from hole one. Gunaseelan will tee off first followed by Woodward, Kverkova, Schrock, and finally Yun.
Yun had an even-par first round and improved to finish one under par for the day. Schrock consistently scored back-to-back rounds of 73 with four birdies spread across different holes.
Kverkova recorded a two-round total of 152 with a strong finish in her opening round but faced challenges in her second round. Woodward started with a birdie in her initial round but ended six over par in her second outing.
Senior Gunaseelan began her tournament strongly but struggled towards the end of each round finishing three over par initially and nine over par subsequently.
Illinois State looks forward to maintaining their lead as they head into the decisive final round.
