The Illinois State women's golf team secured the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship for the second time in three years. The tournament, held at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois, saw the Redbirds lead from start to finish, claiming their 15th MVC title, the most in conference history.
Fifth-year senior Ali Schrock tied for first place with a score of 216 over three rounds. Jinyoung Yun finished third with a 218. Avalon Woodward tied for 20th with a 229, Michaela Kverkova tied for 23rd with a 230, and Vinisha Gunaseelan tied for 25th with a 231. All five Redbird golfers finished in the top half of the competition.
Illinois State's total score of 889 outpaced UIC by twelve strokes. The remaining teams were Drake (902), Northern Iowa (908), Missouri State (911), Belmont (911), Indiana State (916), Bradley (918), Murray State (921), Southern Illinois (929), Evansville (931), and Valparaiso (989).
Post-tournament accolades included Golfer of the Year awarded to Yun and Coach of the Year to Bre Hall. Yun, Schrock, and Woodward received All-Conference honors while Yun and Schrock made the All-Tournament Team. Schrock also earned the MVC Elite 17 Award.
With this victory, Illinois State gains an automatic entry into one of six regional locations: Auburn, Alabama; Cle Elum, Washington; College Station, Texas; East Lansing, Michigan; Las Vegas, Nevada; or Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The selection show is scheduled for April 24.
