Illinois State University secured an 8-6 victory over Lindenwood in a baseball game held at Lou Brock Sports Complex on Wednesday. Redshirt junior Judah Morris and sophomore Daniel Pacella each contributed with home runs, helping the Redbirds improve their overall record to 19-15.
Pacella achieved a 2-for-5 performance with one RBI, while Morris led the team with three RBIs. The Redbirds amassed a total of 11 hits during the game. Meanwhile, Lindenwood's overall record now stands at 12-24.
The game's scoring commenced with Pacella's solo home run in the first inning. In the second inning, Illinois State extended their lead to 3-0 through a sacrifice bunt by junior JT Sokolove and an RBI single from senior Greg Nichols. Lindenwood responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
Morris hit Illinois State's second home run in the third inning, increasing their lead to 5-1. However, Lindenwood narrowed the gap with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, bringing the score to 5-3.
In the sixth inning, Illinois State added two more runs via an RBI single from junior Tyler Herron and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Luke Lawrence, pushing their lead to 7-3. Lindenwood then scored three consecutive runs across the sixth and seventh innings, making it a close game at 7-6.
Morris provided crucial insurance for Illinois State by driving in Lawrence for an additional run in the ninth inning, securing an 8-6 win for his team.
Lawrence extended his on-base streak to 20 games—the longest by any Redbird this season—while Pacella marked his sixteenth multi-hit game of the year. Junior Joe Husak recorded his fourth save of 2024.
Looking ahead, Illinois State is set to host MVC leaders Indiana State for a weekend series scheduled from April 19th to April 21st.
