The Illinois State men's tennis team concluded its 2024 season on Friday night after a 4-0 defeat to Drake University in the semifinals of the Summit League Championship. The event took place at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Drake gained an early lead by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. In singles play, Jeremy Schifris extended Drake's advantage by defeating Arvid Hjalte 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. The Bulldogs furthered their lead with a victory at the No. 6 position and clinched the match when Matija Matic overcame Adrian Dibildox with scores of 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3.
The final score was Drake (4), Illinois State (0).
In doubles, Matija Matic and Oliver Johansson defeated Tin Ostro and Emiliano Gonzalez 6-4 at No. 1, while Jeremy Schifris and Ollie Sonesson Lidholt secured a win over Caden Scarlett and Tomas Valencia with a score of 6-3 at No. 3.
For singles matches that were not completed, Oliver Johansson faced Nam Pham with an unfinished score of 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1; Markus Bolin played against Tomas Valencia ending unfinished at 6-4, 4-5 for No. 4; and Matt Clegg competed against Emiliano Gonzalez with an unfinished score of 7-5, 4-5 for No. 5.
