The Illinois State men's golf team is preparing to defend its 2023 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) title. The team aims to become the first in nearly ten years to win consecutive MVC Championships. This year's event will be held at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Missouri, from April 21 to April 23.
The tournament features a field of ten other schools, including Southern Illinois and Valparaiso, alongside whom Illinois State will tee off starting at 9:30 a.m. The Redbird lineup consists of Valentin Peugnet, Alex McCulla, Felix van Dijk, TJ Barger, and Parker Wisdom. Will Troy is listed as an alternate.
The course for the championship is a Jack Nicklaus-designed facility that opened in 2000. Over the years, it has hosted several Missouri Golf Association Championships and multiple MVC Championships. Golf Digest has recognized The Club at Porto Cima as one of America's best private golf courses.
Illinois State's history at the MVC Championship is notable with six tournament wins—more than any other school currently in the conference. Last season, they recorded a tournament score of 836, which was the second-lowest in the event's history. Felix van Dijk's performance included tying for the second-lowest single-round score in MVC Championship history with his first-round 65.
Live scoring for this year's championship will be available on Golfstat.
