The Illinois State women's golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Regional for the second time in three seasons. The East Lansing Regional, hosted by Michigan State, will take place at Forest Akers Golf Course from May 6 to May 8, with a practice day on May 5.
Teams joining Illinois State at the regional include USC, Northwestern, Florida, Pepperdine, Michigan State, Kentucky, Denver, Oklahoma State, Indiana, Augusta, and Oakland. The Redbirds earned their spot after winning the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship by 12 strokes at Annbriar Golf Course earlier this month.
Jinyoung Yun was named MVC Golfer of the Year. She and teammates Ali Schrock and Avalon Woodward received All-MVC honors. Schrock also shared co-medalist honors at the MVC Championship alongside Yun.
This season has been notable for Illinois State as they achieved a record-low scoring average of 296.5 per round and recorded 33 rounds at or under par—a new team record. The team also set five of the ten lowest tournament scores in program history this season.
Individually, Yun's four rounds of 67 are tied for the lowest in program history. Her score of 204 at the Redbird Invitational remains a school record.
Forest Akers West Golf Course is known for its unique arboretum setting and challenging layout. It has been recognized as one of Michigan's top public golf courses and offers premier facilities for collegiate golfers.
