Illinois State University's baseball team faced a setback as they were defeated by Murray State with a 3-0 score on Friday at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The game marked the opening of their series against Murray State.

Illinois State, holding an overall record of 20-19 and 8-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), struggled to make an impact despite junior Noah Rabin's two hits. The defeat extends their losing streak to four games.

Murray State, on the other hand, improved its standing to 25-16 overall and matched Illinois State with an 8-8 record in the MVC.

The pivotal moment came in the fourth inning when Murray State scored all three of its runs. Despite having multiple runners on base during the third, fourth, and seventh innings, Illinois State was unable to capitalize on these opportunities.

Freshman Matthew Donnison contributed significantly for Illinois State with four innings of relief pitching and four strikeouts. This match marked only the second time this year that Illinois State has been shut out. Additionally, sophomore Luke Lawrence extended his impressive streak of reaching base to 25 consecutive games with a single hit in the first inning.

Looking ahead, Illinois State is set to continue its series against Murray State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
