The Illinois State track and field team is preparing for a busy weekend, with athletes set to participate in two different competitions. A select group of Redbirds will compete at the Drake Relays from April 25-27, while another contingent will head to the Kip Janvrin Invite hosted by Simpson College from April 25-26.
In their last outing, the Redbirds achieved 15 personal-best marks across various events. Notable performances included Virgil Steward's 100m dash at 10.87 seconds and Ryan Schaefer's times of 16.26 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 56.02 seconds in the 400m hurdles. Other standout performances were Sam Atkinson's 200m dash at 49.40 seconds and Cade Ward's time of 55.69 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
Sophomore Dewayne Johnson placed in the top ten in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds, while Enyinnaya Nwagwu finished sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.70 seconds. Junior Raydoffa Braziel took eighth place in the 400m dash, clocking in at 46.63 seconds.
Several Redbirds are currently ranked within the top-48 NCAA standings, including Amiri Buchanan who ranks tenth in shot put with a distance of 18.73 meters and Devin Turner who holds the twenty-fourth spot in long jump with a leap of 7.63 meters.
Following these meets, Illinois State will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Badger Challenge on May 3.
