Braving chilly weather and overcast skies, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams delivered strong performances at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship meet. The event took place at St. James Farm in Warrenville, Illinois, on Saturday, October 28.
Sophomore Adriana Crabtree emerged as a standout performer by becoming the third conference champion in Titan history. She led the women's team to a second-place finish after taking an early lead in the six-kilometer race. "Crabtree was named the Women's CCIW Student-Athlete of the Meet," recognizing her achievement alongside previous champions Rachel Williams (2012) and Kerry Devitt (2009).
Junior Annalese Chudy secured eighth place with a time of 23:18.7, joining Crabtree in earning First Team All-CCIW honors. This marked the first time since 2017 that two Titans made it to the All-CCIW First Team.
Freshman Brooke Nazos finished 13th with a time of 23:35.3 in her CCIW debut, while senior Amanda Wilson followed closely in 15th place at 23:45.2. Both athletes earned spots on the All-CCIW Second Team.
The women's competition was tight, with IWU totaling 65 points for second place, just behind Millikin's winning score of 62 points. North Central finished third with 68 points.
On the men's side, Nick Fisch led IWU by finishing 25th among scorers and setting a personal best time of 26:30.1 overall. Zack Daniel placed second for IWU at 37th overall with a time of 26:51.2.
Ernie Waterson improved his personal best significantly to finish at 27:19.1, contributing to the men's seventh-place finish with a total of 194 points.
North Central won the men's title decisively with just 16 points, followed by Carthage in second place with an overall score of 80 points.
Zach Marquardt and Sam Perez from IWU received recognition as CCIW RESPECT award winners for their conduct during competitions.
The Titans are set to compete next at Waverly, Iowa on November 11 for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship hosted by Wartburg College.
