Illinois Wesleyan faces Millikin University amid contrasting records

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team is set to face Millikin University on Wednesday, January 31, at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois. The game will begin at 7 p.m., with live stats and streaming available for fans. Eric Stock and Joel Swanson will provide commentary on WESN.

Illinois Wesleyan enters the match with a strong record of 14-6 overall and a 10-1 standing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Titans recently secured a narrow victory over Augustana College, winning 64-60. In contrast, Millikin University has faced challenges this year, holding a 6-14 overall record and experiencing an eight-game losing streak. Their CCIW record stands at 2-9 following a loss to Carroll University.

Junior guard Hakim Williams has been a key player for the Titans, contributing significantly in various aspects of the game. He leads the conference with 19 steals and ranks second in blocks with 11. Williams also appears in the top-25 for assists and rebounds within the CCIW.

Harrison Wilmsen had an impressive performance against Wheaton on January 17, scoring a career-high of 21 points. His contributions have been crucial for Illinois Wesleyan's success this season.

The Shirk Center has served as a successful venue for Titan basketball games over the years, boasting an impressive home record.

Illinois Wesleyan holds a historical advantage over Millikin in their long-standing rivalry, having won their last meeting earlier this season with a score of 72-50.

Defensively, IWU ranks among the top teams nationally in Division III by limiting opponents' field goal percentage to just 39%.

As they prepare for upcoming games, including one against Elmhurst University on February 7th, Illinois Wesleyan looks to maintain its competitive edge through strategic gameplay and efficient ball management.
