The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team faced a challenging match against Sewanee: The University of the South, resulting in a 3-0 defeat. This game marked their fifth consecutive road game within a week.
Illinois Wesleyan's current record stands at 1-6-0, while Sewanee improved to 2-1-2. The match began with Sewanee scoring on a fast break in the first minute. However, Illinois Wesleyan's defense managed to limit Sewanee to four shots in the first half.
Sewanee added two more goals during the second half, scoring in the 53rd and 74th minutes. Throughout the game, Illinois Wesleyan restricted Sewanee to ten total shots but could only muster three shots themselves. Sophomore Sammie Shanks from Bloomington played as goalkeeper for the final 39 minutes and made two saves.
Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will host No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis for a nonconference match on Wednesday, September 20. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Neis Field.
