The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to host Carroll University in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match on Saturday, April 13. The game will commence at 12 p.m. at Tucci Stadium.
Illinois Wesleyan enters the contest with a record of 5-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play after a recent 16-5 defeat against Carthage College. In that game, junior Avery Setzler led the team with three points from two goals and an assist. Sophomore Carleigh Fountain also contributed two goals.
Senior Britney Maldonado has been a standout performer for Illinois Wesleyan, ranking in the top-10 nationally across four statistical categories. She ranks third in the nation for both total assists (48) and assists per game (4), eighth in total points (81), and tenth in points per game (6.75). Maldonado is approaching a program milestone, needing just two more assists to break the single-season record held by Sam Bidlack since 2019.
Junior Mia Fiandaca follows Maldonado with 34 points, including 31 goals and three assists, while Fountain has tallied 30 points from 27 goals and three assists.
Sophomore Devon Hanson leads the team with 57 draw controls and also tops ground ball recoveries with 36. Junior Bri Kiser has made significant contributions as well, leading the team in goal with 103 saves over 660 minutes played.
As a unit, the Titans are ranked sixth nationally for caused turnovers per game, averaging 16. Hanson again leads defensively with 32 forced turnovers.
The upcoming match marks the twelfth meeting between Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll University since their series began in 2015. The Titans hold a narrow lead over Carroll with seven wins out of eleven encounters but lost their last meeting on April 15, 2023.
Carroll University recently suffered a loss to the University of Chicago on April 10, bringing their season record to ten wins against two losses overall.
Saturday's match will honor Morgan's Message®, an initiative aimed at reducing mental health stigma within student-athlete communities by promoting equal treatment for physical and mental health issues.
The event will be available via live stream along with live stats updates for those who wish to follow remotely.
