Illinois Wesleyan softball returns to action against Emory University

After a break from competition, the Illinois Wesleyan University softball team is set to face Emory University in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16. The games will begin at 12 p.m. ET.

The Titans enter the match with an even record of 4-4 for the season. Their last outing was at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, where they secured victories against Wartburg and third-ranked Berry on March 3. Emory has started their season with an 8-4 record, having recently defeated Spalding twice on March 13.

Junior Jen Kuhn and sophomore Casey Wissmiller have been key players for Illinois Wesleyan offensively. Kuhn leads the team with a .481 batting average and a .704 slugging percentage, while Wissmiller holds a .429 average with six RBIs. Freshman Hailey Milgazo has performed well as leadoff hitter, boasting a .364 average and leading the team in runs scored and stolen bases.

In pitching, sophomores Gianna Certa and Caroline Gatchell have been instrumental for IWU. Certa has achieved a .64 ERA with 20 strikeouts and only one walk this season. Gatchell maintains a 2.80 ERA with twelve strikeouts.

Historically, Illinois Wesleyan holds a slight advantage over Emory in past encounters, winning two out of three games played between them. The teams last met during the NCAA Division III World Series in Salem, Virginia.
