The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team achieved a significant milestone at the NCAA Division III National Championship, securing their highest finish since 2011. The Titans tied for sixth place at the tournament held at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, on May 24, 2024. The team set a program record with a total score over four days.
Senior Emma Thorman from Macomb, Illinois, achieved the highest individual placement in the program's history by finishing third. "Thorman secured a third-place finish," noted the report on her performance. Her final score of 293 broke the previous individual record and earned her All-American status.
Lexi Onsrud, another senior from Normal, Illinois, ended her collegiate career with an impressive tie for 18th place. She recorded her best round on the last day with a one-over-par score of 73.
Junior Jacque O'Neill from Harbor Springs, Michigan, also delivered a strong performance by tying for 43rd place with a score of 310. This ranks as the third-best in Illinois Wesleyan's records for a 72-hole tournament.
Juniors Macy Ludwig and Jadyn Spinks rounded out the team's effort by placing 58th and 69th respectively.
Carnegie Mellon claimed the team title with an overall score of 1187. Emory University finished second while Pomona-Pitzer took third place. Alison Takamiya from George Fox was awarded medalist honors with her winning score of 288.
This season marks an end to an era for Illinois Wesleyan's women's golf program under head coach Patrick Freeman. Thorman and her teammates have been instrumental in setting new records and winning titles during their time together.
