BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Knox College on Saturday, September 21 at Neis Field. This win brings IWU's record to 5-0-1, while Knox College falls to 2-5-1. The Titans are experiencing one of their best starts since the 2012 season when they began with a 6-0 record.
The first half saw balanced play between the two teams, with the Titans taking 11 shots compared to Knox's eight and leading in shots on goal with an 8-2 advantage. Junior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior from Cary Grove made two saves to keep the score level at halftime.
The second half remained uneventful until the 79th minute when junior Nick McCully initiated a play that led to sophomore Ryder Coleman scoring the decisive goal for IWU. Sophomore Matthew Perchik and Faheem Mujahid contributed key passes during this sequence.
By the end of the match, Illinois Wesleyan had taken a total of 26 shots, including 14 on target, and earned 11 corner kicks. Kedzior finished with three saves after facing three shots on goal.
Illinois Wesleyan will face Lake Forest College next Wednesday, September 25, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mohr Field.
