Illinois State track teams excel at Gibson Invitational and LSU Gold Alumni

The Illinois State track and field teams concluded their participation in two separate events with commendable performances. At the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, they achieved 16 personal bests. Simultaneously, another group of athletes competed at the LSU Gold Alumni meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

At the Gibson Invitational, notable performances on the men's side included Charles Cruse securing second place in pole vault with a mark of 5.01 meters and Jacob Rollins finishing third in shot put. Brandon Ratliff was among the top five in the 110m hurdles clocking a time of 14.47 seconds. Personal records were set by Virgil Steward (100m dash), Ryan Schafer (110m and 400m hurdles), Sam Atkinson (200m dash), Cade Ward and Jonathan Tegal (400m hurdles), Dylan Meyers (1,500m), Noah Penry and Carter Smott (5,000m).

On the women's side at the same event, Cambria Geyer placed fourth in the 400m hurdles while Macee Rivers finished fifth in the 100m race. Carley Tucker achieved fourth place in high jump and Brittney Oakley secured third place in long jump. Six personal-best times were recorded by Mattie Lieb (100m dash), Chavi Flowers (400m dash), Lauren Schulze (1,500m run), Maggie Reed (3,000m steeplechase), Laney Lester (discus throw) and Megan Clark (long jump).

Meanwhile at LSU Gold Alumni meet, four season-best marks were accomplished including Hassy Fashina-Bombata's performance in the 100m hurdles and Bayta Butler's discus throw. The women's 4x100 relay team also stood out with a time of 45.27 seconds.

Sophomore Dewayne Johnson achieved a top-10 finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds at LSU. Enyinnaya Nwagwu took sixth place in the 200m dash while Raydoffa Braziel secured eighth position in the 400m dash just short of his personal best.

In middle-distance races, Garrett Slack came ninth in the 800 meters while senior Macy Byer finished sixth in discus throw at LSU. Joe Boyer and Garrett Taylor both ranked within top-10 for men's shot put.

Next on their schedule is a trip to Des Moines for Drake Relays from April 25 to April 27 along with an appearance at Illinois Wesleyan Invite on April 26.
