The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team concluded its regular season with a significant victory over Carroll University, marking their sixth consecutive undefeated College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season. The Titans achieved a decisive 29-4 win, solidifying their hold on the CCIW regular season title.
Freshman Jake Kahoun led the charge for IWU, scoring five goals and providing an assist. In total, 21 players contributed to the team's scoreline, with 12 of them securing two or more points. Freshman Reese Hack collected four ground balls, while eight players caused turnovers. Michael Rocco excelled at faceoffs, winning 16 out of 24 attempts.
The game began with IWU's defense forcing an early turnover from Carroll due to a clock violation. Sophomore Noah Dretzka capitalized on this opportunity by scoring within the first 35 seconds. Shortly after, Kahoun assisted freshman Timothy McHugh for another goal. By the end of the first quarter, IWU had established a commanding 12-0 lead.
In the second quarter, McHugh assisted junior Sam Weinberg for IWU's opening goal of the period. The Titans continued to extend their lead with contributions from various players including juniors John Kittoe and Bobby Conroy as well as senior Brendan Baumgarten.
Throughout the third quarter, sophomore Andrew Ortega played a key role by scoring twice and assisting another goal as IWU maintained its dominance with a 26-3 advantage.
Rocco opened the final quarter by winning a faceoff and scoring immediately afterward. Freshman Jarrett Brunson increased the lead further before Nate Pound finalized the score at 29-3 following an assist from Logan Gelling.
With this victory, IWU now holds an overall record of 11-3 and remains unbeaten in conference play at 5-0. They are set to host Carthage College in a CCIW semifinal match on May 1 at Tucci Stadium.
