The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team is preparing to face Carthage College in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday, May 1. The game will take place at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington, Illinois. The Titans secured the No. 1 seed after finishing their sixth consecutive undefeated conference season with a decisive 29-4 victory over Carroll University, earning them the CCIW Regular Season title.
Illinois Wesleyan's overall record stands at 11-3, with a perfect 5-0 in conference play, currently riding a nine-game winning streak. In their recent match against Carroll University on April 27, a total of 21 players contributed to the team's impressive goal tally. Freshmen Jake Kahoun and Timothy McHugh led the scoring efforts with six and five points respectively. Kahoun recorded five goals and one assist, while McHugh provided three assists along with two goals.
Defensively, freshman Reese Hack and senior Alex Oximana each collected four ground balls. Oximana also made six saves during his time as goalkeeper before being replaced by senior Sam Scott for the second half.
The Titans lead several statistical categories within the conference including goals per game (17.57), points per game (27.64), assists per game (10.07), shots per game (56.07), shots on goal per game (33.07), man-up goals per game (2.71), ground balls per game (43.36), and caused turnovers per game (11.29). Their points-per-game average ranks eighth nationally in Division III.
Carthage enters Wednesday's matchup with an overall record of 8-8 and a conference record of 2-3 as the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Earlier this season on April 13, Illinois Wesleyan defeated Carthage on their home field by a score of 18-15.
The semifinal is scheduled for a start time of 7:30 p.m., with cash-only admission fees set at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors over age 65, students, and children aged between six to fourteen years old; children under five enter free as do current CCIW students with valid ID cards.
In another semifinal match happening simultaneously, No. 2 Elmhurst University will host No. 3 North Central College at Elmhurst’s campus.
