Illinois Wesleyan University's men's soccer team achieved a significant victory against North Park University, the current leader in their conference. The Titans secured a 3-2 win, improving their record to 5-4-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). This marks the first time since 2008 that Illinois Wesleyan has defeated North Park.
During the first half, both teams showed competitive play. Although the Titans led with nine shots compared to North Park's six, and had more corner kicks and saves, it was North Park who capitalized on two opportunities in the 12th and 17th minutes to lead 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Illinois Wesleyan intensified their efforts, outshooting North Park 11-4. Senior Brody Seaton from Dunlap, Illinois scored a penalty kick early in the second half to bring the Titans onto the scoreboard. Shortly after, freshman Faheem Mujahid from Saint Robert, Missouri scored again for Illinois Wesleyan with an assist from CJ Rodriguez of Santa Barbara, California.
The game-winning goal came in the final three minutes when Rodriguez assisted Mujahid once more. Mujahid maneuvered past North Park's defense to score with a low right boot that secured a victory for Illinois Wesleyan. Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Kedzior from Cary, Illinois played throughout the match allowing two goals and making two saves.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to face Elmhurst University next on October 18 at 7:30 p.m. for another CCIW matchup.
