The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team has achieved notable success in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) by finishing their sixth consecutive undefeated season. The team secured the regular season title, and eight of its players have been honored with All-CCIW selections. Among them, senior Michael Campagna from Arlington Heights was named Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year.
Campagna, along with juniors Colin Tervo and Sam Skelton, and seniors Gage Black and Trystan Seeley, were recognized as First Team selections. Additionally, senior Ethan Hart, junior Sam Weinberg, and sophomore Noah Dretzka were included in the Second Team honors. Senior goalkeeper Alex Oximana received the CCIW RESPECT award for Illinois Wesleyan.
Campagna's recognition marks his progression from a two-time Second Team honoree to earning both Defensive Player of the Year and First Team selection this year. His performance contributed significantly to IWU's defensive strength, allowing only 30 goals during conference play while scoring 83 goals themselves.
Gage Black repeated his First Team honors for a second year running due to his pivotal role as a midfielder, leading IWU with 13 goals in league play. Trystan Seeley moved up to First Team after being part of the Second Team last year; he totaled 13 points over five matches.
Colin Tervo made his first appearance on the First Team as a goalie with an average of 11.08 saves per game. Sam Skelton also received his first All-CCIW honor for his defensive contributions that included leading IWU in caused turnovers.
Ethan Hart earned Second Team recognition for his efforts on defense across four games this season. Sam Weinberg ranked among the top ten in conference goals per game and points per game statistics while Noah Dretzka led IWU with 19 points during conference play.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to host Carthage College in a CCIW Tournament Semifinal at Tucci Stadium on April 30.
In other recognitions within CCIW: Eli Spence from Elmhurst was named Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year; Hunter Hernandez from Elmhurst earned First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year; Mark Morrell from Elmhurst was awarded Coach of the Year.
