The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams achieved notable success at the Redbird Challenge hosted by Illinois State University. The event, held on March 30, saw six new performances added to the program's record books.
Junior Nick Fisch from Woodridge, Ill., led the men's 5,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 15:34.01, securing the eighth spot in the program's top-10 list. Sophomore Zack Daniel from Lake Barrington, Ill., followed closely with a time of 15:35.33, placing him ninth in IWU laurels.
Freshman Reece Dusek excelled in the men's 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 48.80 seconds, moving him to fourth place in program history and ranking him 19th nationally.
Sophomore Isaac Whitaker finished third in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.57 meters (15'0"). The young relay team comprising sophomores Jahari Scott, Joe Freedman, Evan Lowder, and freshman Tyrice Bender clocked a time of 42.02 seconds in the men's 4x100m relay to secure fourth place and enter the program's top-10 list at No. 4.
In women's events, freshman throwers Loreal Tucker and Lauryn Moore made their mark in IWU's all-time top-10 list. Moore finished eighth in shot put with an 11.18-meter mark while Tucker secured ninth place in discus throw with a distance of 37.14 meters.
Senior Lauren Wong was notable for her performance on the women's side with a fifth-place finish in triple jump at a distance of 11.18 meters.
IWU will next compete at the Hunstman Family Invitational hosted by Wabash University on April 6.
