The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team is set to face Carroll University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) quarterfinals. The match is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at 4 p.m. at Schneider Stadium.
Last year, the Titans entered the tournament as the sixth seed and advanced to win their first-ever CCIW Tournament title. They faced North Park University in the quarterfinals, moving forward through penalty kicks after a tie. A similar situation occurred in the semifinals against Wheaton College, where they secured a 7-6 advantage in penalty kicks to progress to the conference championship.
In that championship match against Carthage College, tied 2-2 until late in the game, Brody Seaton scored a decisive goal in the 87th minute, securing a spot for IWU in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
This season, following a loss to Millikin University on Wednesday night, Illinois Wesleyan is again seeded sixth for the CCIW tournament. North Central College holds fifth place while Millikin is fourth. Wheaton won the regular season title with North Park closely behind as second seed and ranked ninth nationally.
Illinois Wesleyan enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 9-4-3 and a CCIW record of 3-4-1. Meanwhile, Carroll has an overall record of 9-4-4 and finished league play with a 5-2-1 record.
The last encounter between these teams was on October 26 when Carroll defeated IWU with a score of 3-nil. Historically since 2009, Illinois Wesleyan has maintained a competitive edge over Carroll with six wins, two losses, and two draws out of ten meetings.
In this single-elimination format tournament, Saturday's winner will advance to face North Park on Wednesday, November 6.
