FOIA Request to Bloomington City Council Regarding Detailed Information on Council Members on October 15, 2024.
In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at McLean County Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Bloomington City Council. The request, made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, seeks detailed information about all council members.
Specifically, we requested an electronic format list of all council members with the following fields: Name, Title, Year Appointed, Term (2 or 4 years), and Term Expire Date. This information is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As a media organization committed to disseminating vital information to the public, we believe that access to such records is critical. Given our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We will continue our work in ensuring transparency and accountability in local government affairs and look forward to receiving this information from the Bloomington City Council.
