Deer hunters in Illinois are gearing up for the start of firearm hunting season, which kicks off this Friday and runs through Sunday, November 24. A second session is scheduled from December 5 to December 8.
During this period, hunters are permitted to use shotguns, muzzleloaders, handguns, and centerfire rifles. Additionally, vertical, traditional, and crossbows are allowed but only on private property. Hunters must follow clothing regulations that require a solid blaze orange or blaze pink hat and an outer garment displaying at least 400 square inches of orange or blaze pink material.
Hunting hours extend from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Participants must possess the appropriate deer permits and a valid hunting license. The bag limit is set at one deer per hunter, with a maximum of two antlered deer over a 12-month period starting July 1. After harvesting a deer, hunters must comply with reporting and registration guidelines as specified by the IDNR.
