Playing on their home courts, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team began their 2024-25 season with a victory over Lawrence University. The Titans won 5-2 in the match held on Saturday, September 7. This marks the second consecutive season that Illinois Wesleyan has started with a win.
The Titans secured an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches to earn one point. The sophomore duo of Amber Ehrlich and Olivia Bell defeated Lawrence's top pair 6-2. Senior Kate Christian teamed up with freshman Gabi Lipske for a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, marking Lipske's first collegiate win. Sophomore Carly Edwards and senior Andie Wilson completed the sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Ehrlich achieved her second win of the day with set scores of 6-2 and 6-3 in the top singles slot. Christian also claimed her second victory by winning the No. 4 singles match with scores of 6-1, 6-4, while Edwards took both sets at No. 5 singles, winning 6-2 each time. Freshman Angela Zatloka made her collegiate debut at No. 6 singles and secured her first victory with set scores of 6-4, 6-0.
Illinois Wesleyan will next face Illinois College on Tuesday, September 10.
