For the first time in his career, Illinois Wesleyan University sophomore Mason Funk has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday, December 23.
This marks the second weekly award for the Titans this season. Earlier, Hakim Williams received the same honor on November 13.
Funk's performance played a significant role in leading ninth-ranked IWU to an 84-68 victory over No. 2 WashU on December 19. He tied his career-high with a game-leading score of 20 points, marking his second consecutive game with such a score. Funk achieved this by going 7-for-16 from the field and successfully making four out of nine three-point attempts. Additionally, he contributed five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks during the game.
Looking ahead, Funk and Illinois Wesleyan will travel to Texas for the Cru Classic scheduled for December 29-30. They are set to play against LeTourneau University on Sunday, December 29 at 2 p.m., followed by a match against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday, December 30 at 4 p.m.
