City of Lexington City Council met Nov. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the Lexington City Council was called to order at 7:00 P. M. by Mayor Spencer Johansen in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Mayor Spencer Johansen led the council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was taken to find the following physically present: Mayor Spencer Johansen, Alderman Mattingly, Alderwoman Wilson, Alderman Little, Alderman Franklin and Alderman Stover with Alderman Richard absent. Members of the staff and public present were: Peg Reynolds with the Lexingtonian, Paige Drane with Globe Life, Monica Scheuer and Chief Edmiaston.

It was moved by Alderwoman Wilson and seconded by Alderman Mattingly to approve the minutes of the November 11, 2024 regular session meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved by Alderman Stover and seconded by Alderman Franklin to approve the Treasurer’s Report and paying of the bills in the amount of $102,605.63. Motion carried unanimously.

Public Input: Paige Drane with Globe Life spoke to the council about the benefits of Globe Life, Family Heritage Division.

There is a need for this benefit. Most people understand the financial impact of serious health issues, very few are prepared to deal with them. Very few people have the necessary emergency funds in place to cover their lost income and living expenses if they had to deal with something serious such as a critical illness or accident. This policy would step in and cover some of these costs.

She went on to state some of the benefits: No cost to the business, no payroll deductions, no administration or soft costs, personalized enrollment method, helps with retention, employee interest, industry leading benefits and unique return of premium features.

Alderman Franklin will make sure everyone gets the information and she can follow up with them.

Old Business: Update on Sewer Department Mapping Software

Kaden Tolan led this discussion. He has been working hard on the program to map out the sewer lines. All sewer and water main lines have been uploaded from GPS and imported from Farnsworth from the pump station all the way to Barkers.

Anytime there is a water main break it can be inputed into the map. That way a history of the breaks is kept, a history of the repairs. It can show the size of the mains. In an emergency he can locate a water break if Billy is not around. Billy will be able to do the same for the sewer. We will soon have everyone's water and sewer lines on there.

At some point we need to replace all of our cast iron water mains.

New Business: None
