The Illinois Wesleyan University swim and dive teams competed against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on January 11, after a month-long break from competition. Despite their efforts, both the men's and women's teams were defeated by the Fightin' Engineers.
In the women's events, Kayleigh Kuschewski excelled in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:40.85 and secured third place in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:04.43. Natalie Porter claimed victory in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:24.40, while also achieving second place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.20) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.19). Freshman Isabella Cano won the women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.68.
The women's team achieved first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Cano, Julia Jozwiak, Juliana Boyle, and Alexa Starkey completing it in 1:51.05. They also finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with Kuschewski, Cano, Jozwiak, and Caroline Stenger participating.
On the men's side, Tate Thomas took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:40.88. Carter Dilger won the crown for his performance in the 100-yard fly at a time of 54.78. Jacob Nacional and Ben Huk earned gold medals in their respective events—the former for his performance in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.60) and Huk for his achievement in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.13).
Dilger joined forces with Colin McKibben, Huk, and Nacional to secure first place overall in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.04.
The Titans will return to Fort Natatorium on January 17 for a tri-meet involving IWU, Millikin University, and Illinois College scheduled to begin at six p.m.
