Illinois State University’s gymnastics team is set to continue its packed schedule with a dual meet against Southeast Missouri State on Friday night. The competition, taking place at Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, marks the second of three regular-season meetings between these Midwest Independent Conference members.
The Redbirds, currently ranked 26th nationally according to Road To Nationals rankings, are looking to rebound after a busy week. "This has been a busy last week and we felt like we were not our best on Tuesday, despite doing enough to pull off a win. Our team is determined and focused to get back on track and hit all of their routines at SEMO," said ISU Head Coach Bob Conkling.
In recent competitions, Illinois State defeated Northern Illinois twice in five days. Notable performances included senior Mya Robinson's first-place all-around finish with a score of 38.825 and event wins for seniors Julia Heiner and Leah Davis along with Jaye Mack on bars and balance beam respectively. Transfer student Jaly Jones was recognized as the MIC Newcomer of the Week for the third consecutive week, while sophomore Reese Grolla received MIC Performance of the Week honors.
Southeast Missouri State enters the meet ranked 62nd nationally with a season record of 4-8. At their last outing in the BGSU Tri-Meet, they placed third behind Bowling Green and Central Michigan. Taylor Ingle led SEMO with standout performances across multiple events, earning her second-straight Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week Award.
