The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team participated in the IWU Triangular II on February 1, 2025, splitting their matches for the day. The Titans achieved a victory against the Illinois Institute of Technology but fell to Trine University.
In their match against IIT, Illinois Wesleyan secured a win in four sets with scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, and 25-21. During this game, the Titans set a new record for kills in a four-set match with a total of 62. Sophomore Brenden Reutter also tied for third-most assists in a match with his contribution of 32 assists.
The Titans showcased strong teamwork against Illinois Tech by maintaining an advantage in kills (62-38), hitting percentage (.313 to .181), digs (51-36), and assists (61-36). Bryce Williams led the team with 16 kills while Gavin Rohlwing and Trey Marek added significant contributions as well. Reutter not only excelled in assists but also contributed nine kills, seven digs, three blocks, and three aces.
Despite dropping the second set to IIT, Illinois Wesleyan responded positively in subsequent sets. They overcame challenges through strategic plays and managed to secure victory over IIT with effective performances from various players including Vince DiCosola who provided key assists throughout the match.
However, against Trine University, the Titans were unable to maintain their winning streak and lost in straight sets: 30-28, 25-21, and 25-17. Although Williams and Rohlwing continued to lead offensively with double-digit kills each, Trine held an edge in attack percentage and blocks which contributed to their victory.
The Titans will next face No.18 Dominican University at home on February 6 at Shirk Center.
