The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team has been predicted to lead the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) in the upcoming season, according to the Preseason Coaches Poll announced on February 7. The team, now under the leadership of head coach Michael Kellar, received four out of nine first-place votes, securing 56 points.
Following closely is Augustana with one first-place vote and 49 points. Millikin and North Park are tied for third place with 46 points each. Carthage, North Central, and Carroll are positioned fifth through seventh with scores of 43, 30, and 20 points respectively. Wheaton and Elmhurst occupy the final two spots with 13 and 12 points.
Michael Kellar was promoted from assistant coach in June. He will be guiding a team that includes 25 returning players from last year's squad that finished second in the CCIW with a record of 23-16. Key returning players include senior Justin Gadomski and junior Cole Shamhart, both First Team All-CCIW honorees.
Additionally, senior Tyler Woltman, junior Will Davidsmeier, and sophomore John Philip Ferraro return as Second Team All-CCIW honorees.
Illinois Wesleyan's season opener is scheduled against Greenville University on February 21 at 1 p.m.
