After beginning their 2025 season with a match against Aurora University, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to face the Illinois Institute of Technology. The game will take place on Wednesday, February 26, at Stuart Field in Chicago, Illinois, starting at 5 p.m.
In their opening game, IWU (0-1) was defeated by Aurora (1-0) with a score of 10-7. Senior Avery Setzler from Bloomington led the team's offense by scoring three goals and adding an assist. Junior Sadie Newton dominated with seven draw controls, while senior Mia Fiandaca had four caused turnovers. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk played as goalkeeper for the entire match and made ten saves.
Setzler's performance was supported by Fiandaca who scored two goals. Newton contributed one goal and freshman Maddie Gibson marked her debut with her first career goal. Setzler, Newton, along with juniors Anelise DiGiovanni and Carleigh Fountain each provided an assist.
The upcoming game marks the third encounter between Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois Tech (0-2), with previous matches held in 2015 and 2016 where IWU emerged victorious both times. In their last meeting, now-head coach Abby Kushina scored twice and secured three ground balls in a win over IIT.
Illinois Tech enters this contest following a significant loss to Southwestern College on February 22. A live stream of the match will be available online alongside live stats for fans to follow.
