The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team faced a setback during their spring break games, losing to McDaniel College with a score of 17-3 on Sunday, March 9. This result brings Illinois Wesleyan's record to 3-3, while McDaniel advances to 4-2 for the season.

Sophomore Chloe Heyl from Houston led the scoring for IWU with one goal and an assist. Junior Sadie Newton and freshman Carly Bajusz also contributed goals, and freshman Maddie Gibson provided an assist.

Senior Avery Setzler excelled in draw controls with three, while freshman Cassie Fischmann collected two ground balls. Bajusz, Gibson, and sophomore Bri Steil each caused one turnover.

In goal, senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk played the first 45 minutes and made ten saves but allowed 14 goals, resulting in a .417 save percentage. Freshman Marli Brown took over for the final quarter, making two saves and allowing three goals.

McDaniel started strong by scoring eight consecutive goals before Newton scored for the Titans in the second quarter. The Green Terror quickly responded with another goal. Bajusz then scored on a free-position shot to make it 9-2 before halftime.

McDaniel extended their lead with five more goals in the second half. Heyl managed to score another goal for IWU at the end of the third quarter. However, McDaniel sealed their victory by adding three more goals in the final quarter.

Illinois Wesleyan will continue their Maryland trip by facing St. Mary's College (Md.) on Wednesday, March 12 at noon ET.
